Davey Moore was a world-champion boxer and resident of Springfield, Ohio. His professional boxing career spanned from 1953-1963. During that decade, he won the World Featherweight Title from Hogan “Kid” Bassey in 1959, retaining the title 5 times until losing it to Sugar Ramos in a fight that would lead to his death from brain injuries.
Bob Dylan wrote a song about Davey in 1963 called “Who killed Davey Moore”, a criticism of the violence of boxing.
